چکیده

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic exposure and excision for juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. DESIGN Prospective analysis of the outcomes of endoscopic removal of the angiofibroma at a tertiary care centre, using endoscopic and radiological parameters. SUBJECTS Twenty-eight consecutive patients with angiofibroma were included. These patients underwent endonasal endoscopic excision of the lesion, following pre-operative computed tomography and digital subtraction angiography. Post-operative endoscopy and radiology were performed at six weeks to detect any residual lesion, and thereafter at six-monthly intervals to detect recurrence. RESULTS Twenty-one patients (75 per cent) were new cases and seven patients (25 per cent) had recurrent tumour. Pre-operative embolisation was performed in 21 patients (75 per cent). An endoscopic endonasal approach was used to access the pterygopalatine fossa. The average blood loss was 228 ml. Residual lesion was noted in one patient (initially with recurrent stage II C pathology). The remaining 27 patients (initially with stage I, II A and II B pathology) were free of residual pathology or recurrence after a minimum follow-up period of 12 months. CONCLUSION Endoscopic exposure and excision of angiofibroma was found to be effective.

Nasal Angiomyolipoma (AML) Mimicking Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma

Introduction: Angiomyolipoma (AML), a benign mesenchymal tumor that commonly arises from the kidney, may be associated with tuberous sclerosis complex and perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas). Nasal angiomyolipoma is very rare and usually occurs in elderly individuals with epistaxis and nasal obstruction.   Case Report: We report a rare case of nasal angiomyoli...

Juvenile Nasophryngeal Angiofibroma,New Aspects in Management

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare, benign and locally invasive tumor. Massive bleeding because of vascularity of tumor and postoperative recurrence are potential problems of management. Endonasal approach reduces the rate of postoperative recurrence, intraoperative bleeding, and complications of surgery, time of operation and duration of hospitalization. In this article, we r...

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in a tertiary centre: ten-year experience.

INTRODUCTION This is a retrospective study that aimed to examine the outcomes of patients presenting with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) at a tertiary centre in Malaysia. METHODS The demographical data, clinical presentation, investigations as well as treatment of 13 JNA patients were reviewed and collected from the medical record office at our centre from 1995 to 2005. RESULTS ...

Current management of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma: a tertiary center experience 1999-2007.

BACKGROUND Over the past 10 years, the management of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) has been redefined because of the improvement of transnasal skull base techniques. However, the limits of endoscopic resection still have to be fully defined. The purpose of this study was to report on a series of patients presenting with JNA in an effort to further define an optimal treatment algori...

Multiport Combined Endoscopic Approach to Nonembolized Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma with Parapharyngeal Extension: An Emerging Concept

Background. Surgical approaches to the parapharyngeal space (PPS) are challenging by virtue of deep location and neurovascular content. Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JNA) is a formidable hypervascular tumor that involves multiple compartments with increase in size. In tumors with extension to parapharyngeal space, the endonasal approach was observed to be inadequate. Combined Endoscopic...
